Dog ramps for beds & couches (with slope calculator)
The single most useful number when buying a ramp is the angle it will sit at. A ramp that's too short for your bed height becomes a slide. Measure from the floor to the top of the mattress or cushion, then use the calculator below.
Ramp slope calculator
Enter the rise (floor to the top of the bed/couch, or ground to the vehicle floor) and the ramp length. Sources disagree on an exact "safe" angle, and we haven't found a published veterinary standard. As a working rule, gentler is better for weak or arthritic dogs.
What to compare
- Width: a wider surface feels safer to unsteady dogs. Compare widths in the directory.
- Surface: carpet or rubber tread with side lips. Bare plastic is exactly the problem you're trying to solve.
- Stability: the ramp must not slide or wobble (VCA). Put it on a rug pad if needed.
- Data status: we haven't verified specs for bed-height ramps yet. Products will be added once specs are confirmed from manufacturers.
No products listed yet. We only add a product once its specs are confirmed from the manufacturer.
FAQ
Ramp or steps?
Steps take up less floor space but need more leg flexion. Ramps are usually preferred for dogs with weak hind legs or back problems. Ask your vet for your dog.
