Lift harnesses & support slings compared
A lift harness lets you help your dog up and over obstacles without straining your back or squeezing their abdomen. There are two main designs:
What to compare
- Rear sling (e.g. GingerLead): a padded strap under the belly with a handle. Fast to put on and good for walks. Rear support only. Sized by pad width and loop length, not weight.
- Full-body harness (e.g. Help 'Em Up): front chest piece plus rear hip lift with two handles, made to be left on. Better for large dogs or for lifting front and back together.
- Choose a rear sling if your dog only needs help with the back end on walks. Choose a full harness if they need help standing, with stairs, or getting into the car.

Can my dog wear it all day?
Help 'Em Up says its harness can be left on for extended periods. Check for rubbing daily.
What about after belly surgery?
Avoid belly slings. GingerLead's own reseller points to a different rear harness for that case.
