Dog wheelchair buying guide
A rear-support wheelchair is for dogs whose back legs can't reliably bear weight. It lets them walk, sniff, and toilet on their own. Getting the size right is the whole game.
What to compare
- Type: rear support (most common), front support, or full-support (4-wheel) for weakness in all four legs.
- Sizing (Walkin' Wheels example): frame by weight (Mini 2โ10 lb, Small 11โ25 lb, Medium 26โ69 lb, Large 70โ180 lb). Wheel size by weight plus rear leg height, measured with the dog lying on its side.
- Adjustable vs custom: adjustable frames can be resold or refitted. Custom carts fit precisely but cost more and take time.
- Introduce it slowly with treats, in short sessions.
